» Feature Writer Rosemary Drisdelle - Cairo's pyramids

I visited Giza in March of 2005 - the biggest surprise for me was how close the pyramids are to Cairo. They are almost in the city. I will say that no picture does them justice - and yes, every tourist destination in Egypt is a warren of vendors trying to sell you everything from necklaces to themselves as a subject for your next picture. It got quite tiresome after a while, but as long as you stayed in the spirit of the culture, it was okay. At one point, surrounded by aggressive vendors in the Halili (?) market, I simply grabbed my husband by the hand and said "Run!" We did. (And I suppose that husband is the reason I escaped the marriage proposals - there was only one that I can recall.)
Anyway, it was the experience of a lifetime.
